Masayo Ave

Born in Tokyo in 1962, Masayo Ave is a graduate of architecture from the engineering department of Hosei University in Tokyo. After working at I. Ebihara Architect and Associates, in 1990 she moved from Tokyo to Milan where she completed a master's degree in industrial design at the Domus Academy. In 1992, she established her own design studio "Ave design corporation" based in Tokyo and Milan. In 1996, she received a grant of Akademie Schloss Solitude, Germany, and in 2000, she established her own collection "MasayoAve creation." Her design projects, widely ranged from daily objects to architecture, from modern handicraft to mass production, have been developed in a perfect harmony of tradition, advanced technology and her ingenious originality based on her artistic research on the intrinsic potential value of emotion in materials. She has received international acclaim in the field of architecture, garden design, furniture, lighting, textile, and package as well as product design as winner of international competitions. Beside her own collection, she works also as product designer for design companies such as Authentics, Industrielle, DuPont Corian, and Yamaha. Making the most of her decade-long creative experiences in the international design field, since 2001 Masayo Ave is also active to conduct the international design workshop titled "sound of material" - a live design workshop based on the tactile sensitivity - for and with young creators, craftsmen as well as the professionals of the various fields in the various countries. Since 2004, Masayo Ave is appointed Visiting Professor at University of Arts in Berlin to conduct the new design division "Haptic Interface Design."
